There is no there, there
Clichés aside, this is more of a hearty (rather than heady) conversation about how we show up in life, each and every day. How do we want to show up – at work; in our community; with our partner, children, friends and extended family; and, in our own lives through personal growth, fun, health, and spirituality?
Funneling from a Desire (goal) to a Value
- Desire – what is it you want? I want to lose weight.
- Benefit – What would happen if you did (#1)? I would have more energy.
- Action – What would you do if you had that (#2)? I would do more things with my spouse.
- Value – What does that mean to you (#3)? Family is important to me. I want to spend quality time doing things with my spouse.
Then, at the end of a day, you can check how well you’ve lived according to your value. If you showed up how you wanted, then appreciate that you’re living according to your professed values. If you fell short, then recommit to your values the next day – having your behaviors match your desires.
